Beavers land two with double digits, fall to Wildcats

Bemidji State closed its trip to Michigan with an 80-51 loss to Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Bemidji State University Women's Basketball fell to Northern Michigan University, 80-51, on Saturday afternoon, closing out the Beavers' Upper Peninsula road trip and starting the season at 0-2.
 
Two Beavers found double-digit points this afternoon as Ella Giorgi led the team with 17 and Tieryn Plasch added 13. The pair marked a combined 30 points, over 58 percent of the Beavers' total points. Ashlynne Guenther was just one point shy of hitting ten after going three for seven on field goals, two for two at the three-point arc and missing her solo free-throw attempt. 
 
Giorgi and Plasch also tallied team highs with four rebounds each, Giorgi grabbing one on offense and three on defense while Plasch earned all four on defense. Erin Barrette was the Beavers' assist leader with three helpers for her teammates. 
 
As a team, the Beavers went 16-53 on field goals, 8-26 at the arc and 11-12 on free-throw attempts. The team fought hard and caused lead changes four times with five occurrences of the score being tied. They grabbed 24 points off the bench with 14 in the paint. The team's starting five of Barrette, Plasch, Guenther, Rachel Koenig and Aubrey Heyer combined for 27 points, two steals, a block and 12 rebounds. 
 
Following this trip to Michigan, the Beavers open their home season with the University of Minnesota Morris next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. from the BSU Gymnasium. Tickets are available online at Hometown Ticketing or at the door. The game will also be broadcasted via NSIC Network.
