BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Basketball team secured a narrow victory over Valley City State University Saturday afternoon at BSU Gymnasium winning 64-61 in non-conference action.
Bemidji State freshman
Aubrey Heyer led the Beavers by scoring a career-high 16 points off 7-of-12 shooting from the floor including 2-for-4 behind the arc. The Beavers secured their second straight win at home to improve 2-2 ahead of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Quarter 1
- Bemidji State and VCSU both committed four turnovers, impacting their offensive flow.
- VCSU led by three points, scoring 15 compared to Bemidji State's 12.
- Both teams showed strong bench contributions, each scoring six points off the bench.
Quarter 2
- Bemidji State outscored the Vikings 16-13 in the second quarter.
- Both teams recorded five ties during the quarter, indicating a closely contested segment.
- Bemidji State had a notable defensive presence with three blocks.
Quarter 3
- Bemidji State outscored VCSU 16-15 in the third quarter.
- The Vikings capitalized on turnovers, scoring six points off turnovers compared to Bemidji State's four.
- Bemidji State had a stronger presence on the boards with 11 total rebounds, including eight defensive rebounds, while the Vikings managed seven total rebounds.
Quarter 4
- Bemidji State scored 20 points, while VCSU scored 18 points, resulting in a close finish for the quarter.
- Bemidji State. had a higher free throw success rate, converting 8-of-10 attempts, compared to the Vikings' 2-of-2.
- The Vikings dominated the offensive boards with five offensive rebounds, contributing to their nine total rebounds in the quarter.
The Beavers finished the game shooting 49-percent (25-51) from the floor, 36.4-percent (4-11) from three-point range and 76.9-percent (10-13) from the free throw line while holding the Vikings to just 33.8-percent shooting. The Beavers' defense also earned a season-high nine blocks in the game with Heyer and Theis leading the way with four each.
Behind Heyer's performance,
Tieryn Plasch recorded a season-high with three three-pointers made, contributing five assists while scoring 11 points.

Janette Hanni made her mark defensively, leading the team with two steals
The Beavers will now begin conference play when they travel to University of Minnesota Crookston Dec. 6.
