CROOKSTON, MINN. – Bemidji State University Women's Basketball fell to University of Minnesota Crookston, 69-63, in overtime Friday evening. The Beavers move to 2-3 on the season and start with a 0-1 record in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Led by graduate student
Janette Hanni, the Beaver offense shot at 37.7% from the field and 15.4% from the three-point line. Hanni's 19 points, going 8-18 from the field and 3-4 from the free-throw line, marked the team high with
Erin Barrette and
Ashlynne Guenther just behind at 11 points each.
Tieryn Plasch grabbed the best three-point shooting percentage, making 50% of her three pointers on four attempts. From the free-throw line, Barrette led the team with seven made shots on 11 attempts.
Brooke Theis led the team with nine total rebounds, marking 18.75% of the team's total of 48. Leading in time on the floor, Barrette grabbed four assists with
Aubrey Heyer close behind at three.
The Beavers held a lead for the majority of the game, holding the lead at the end of each of the first three quarters. The Golden Eagles picked things up in the third period, grabbing 24 points and tying the game at 61 points to force overtime. In the overtime period, the Beavers struggled find the hoop with the only points coming from a pair of free throws from
Janette Hanni in the final two seconds.
The Beavers now head to Minot State University Saturday afternoon for the first Battle of the Beavers of the season. BSU will take on MSU at 3:30 p.m. and fans are able to catch all the action on the NSIC Network.
