Beavers move into eighth in NSIC standings behind Sutherland’s 29 points

BSU Men’s Basketball defeats Sioux Falls 76-69 Friday night

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Men's Basketball junior forward John Sutherland scored 29 points to help the Beavers move into eighth-place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings after defeating University of Sioux Falls 76-69 Friday night at BSU Gymnasium.
 
Sutherland shot a scorching 13-of-19 from the floor and added seven rebounds and four assists to help the Beavers to their third consecutive victory. He was followed by junior BJ Davis who recorded 17 points on 4-for-7 shooting and went 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Tate Olson added 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season.
 
40 of the Beavers' 76 points came in the paint and 13 came from second-chance opportunities. The Beavers shot 48.0 percent from the field as a team and held the Cougars (12-13, 9-10 NSIC) to just 38.8 percent shooting.
 
The Beavers trailed by four at halftime but outscored USF 39-28 in the second half to come away with their 13th victory of the season and improve to 13-12 (9-10 NSIC).
 
Bemidji State will attempt to extend its winning streak to four tomorrow evening when it hosts Southwest Minnesota State University at 5:30 p.m. from the BSU Gymnasium.
