BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Basketball team out-scored Southwest Minnesota State University 20-10 in the fourth quarter but it was too little too late as the Mustangs earned a 78-65 victory over the Beavers Saturday afternoon at the BSU Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (16-10, 14-6 NSIC) held a 28-point lead over the Beavers (6-18, 3-17 NSIC) with two minutes left in the third quarter but BSU stormed back in the fourth to dwindle their lead to 10 with four minutes to play. However, the Mustangs would go on a 7-4 run in the final four minutes to seal the victory.
Bemidji State used a balance attack with all 10 Beavers scoring points in the game led by sophomore
Alyssa Hill who totaled 13 points including eight in the second half. Seniors
Sam Pogatchnik and
Amme Sheforgen each followed with nine points while Pogatchnik led the team with seven rebounds and added three assists, two blocks and one steal.
The Beavers will now look to next weekend when they close out the regular season on the road at Winona State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato Feb. 23-24. With today's loss, the Beavers have been eliminated from Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Basketball Tournament contention.
