BEMIDJI, Minn. – The No. 2 University of Wisconsin Women's Hockey team used a six-goal first period to skate past the Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team in their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series opener Friday night at Sanford Center.

Wisconsin's Laila Edwards netted a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point night while Caroline Harvey and Britta Curl each collected three points.

The Beavers totaled 16 shots in the game led by senior captain
Taylor Nelson with three including multiple breakaway chances.

Freshman
Eva Filippova started the game and earned the loss after allowing three goals within the first 8:37 of play before junior
Abbie Thompson subbed in and turned aside 24 shots in just over 51 minutes of action.

The Beavers will hope to bounce back tomorrow afternoon for game two at 3:01 p.m.
