Maria Stocke each scored in the 76

th minutes to spark a comeback victory for the Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team Friday night over Quincy University. The Beavers (1-2-0) earned a 2-1 victory over the Hawks (0-3-0) to open play in Fayette, Iowa.

After surrendering a goal in the 35
th minute, the Beavers used halftime to gather themselves and develop a strategy to break through the Hawks' defenses. The Beavers finally broke through in the 76
th minute when junior
Katrina Barthelt dribbled through the right-side of the Hawks' backline to score her first goal of the season and equalize the score at 1-1.

Only a few minutes later the Beavers earned a penalty kick and sent senior captain
Maria Stocke to attempt the kick. 3-for-4 on penalty kicks prior to the attempt, Stocke lined up and beat goalkeeper Julia Mincher to the left and put the Beavers in front with just 12 minutes to play.

The Beavers' defense shut down the Hawks' desperate attempt at an equalizing goal and earned the 2-1 victory, the first of the season for the 2024 squad.

Sonia Alfieri earned her first collegiate victory in goal and made four saves including two in the second half.

The Beavers totaled 22 shot attempts, 16 of which came in the second half. Barthelt paced the Beavers with eight, four on goal, while junior
Kenzie Harer had four.

BSU will attempt to stick to its winning ways when it faces Upper Iowa University Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for Noon in Fayette, Iowa.
