BEMIDJI, Minn. – Drury University defeated the Bemidji State University women's soccer team 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Chet Anderson Stadium after scoring in the sixth minute. The Beavers now fall to 0-2 (0-0 NSIC) while the Panthers improved to 2-0 (0-0 GLVC).
Â
Drury's Tara Simon scored in the sixth minute from about 30-yards out with a well-placed shot just inside the left post. It was her first goal of the season.
Â
The Panthers dominated play in the first half, out-shooting the Beavers 16-1 and 7-1 in shots on goal. The Beavers picked up the pace in the second half but a sound Panthers defense held BSU to just one shot on goal in the half. Freshman
Madisen Fritel tallied the lone shot on goal for the Beavers.
Â
Goalkeeper
Sonia Alfieri kept the Panthers lead to just one earning seven saves in the game, a career best for the graduate transfer from Luxembourg.
Â
The Beavers will now hit the road and travel to Fayette, Iowa for their final non-conference matches against Quincy University and Upper Iowa University Sept. 13 and 15, respectively.
