Early goal leads to 1-0 victory for Drury over Bemidji State

Drury defeats Bemidji State 1-0 after sixth minute goal

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Drury University defeated the Bemidji State University women's soccer team 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Chet Anderson Stadium after scoring in the sixth minute. The Beavers now fall to 0-2 (0-0 NSIC) while the Panthers improved to 2-0 (0-0 GLVC).

Drury's Tara Simon scored in the sixth minute from about 30-yards out with a well-placed shot just inside the left post. It was her first goal of the season.

The Panthers dominated play in the first half, out-shooting the Beavers 16-1 and 7-1 in shots on goal. The Beavers picked up the pace in the second half but a sound Panthers defense held BSU to just one shot on goal in the half. Freshman Madisen Fritel tallied the lone shot on goal for the Beavers.

Goalkeeper Sonia Alfieri kept the Panthers lead to just one earning seven saves in the game, a career best for the graduate transfer from Luxembourg.

The Beavers will now hit the road and travel to Fayette, Iowa for their final non-conference matches against Quincy University and Upper Iowa University Sept. 13 and 15, respectively.
