Beavers drop Friday’s road game to Mavericks

Bemidji State fell to Minnesota State, 83-60, Friday night in Mankato

MANKATO, Minn. – Bemidji State University fell to Minnesota State University Mankato, 83-60, at Bresnan Arena in Mankato, Minn.
 
The first half saw BSU trailing MSU with a score of 41-36. Tate Olson contributed early with a layup at 14:12, and Jareon Mayo made a defensive rebound followed by a 3-pointer at 13:26 to tie the game at 5-5. Daxton Dayley was active, scoring two consecutive 3-pointers at 2:34 and 2:16, bringing Bemidji St. closer at 19-14 and later adding a layup at 0:29. John Pecarich also made an impact with two 3-pointers, the first one assisted by Daxton Dayley at 1:02, keeping the team competitive in the closing minutes of the half.
 
In the second half, the Beavers' Tate Olson made a significant contribution with a layup at the start and later added another, showcasing his presence in the paint. Malang Athian hit a 3-pointer at the 18:45 mark, momentarily closing the gap with the Mavericks. Despite Bemidji State's efforts, including Austin Josephson's layup and free throws near the end, Minnesota State's series of 3-pointers and consistent scoring led them to outpace Bemidji State 42-24 in the half.
 
Tate Olson and John Pecarich were standout players for Bemidji State. Olson recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Pecarich led the team in scoring with 16 points, hitting six shots, including four from beyond the arc. Malang Athian contributed 10 points, going 4-for-8 from the field and adding a block. Daxton Dayley also made a significant impact with 11 points, two 3-pointers, and a team-high four assists. Jareon Mayo was active on the boards with six rebounds while also tallying a 3-pointer and a steal.
 
Bemidji State has an overall record of six wins and nine losses, with a conference record of three wins and six losses in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Mavericks hold an overall record of ten wins and seven losses, with a conference record of six wins and three losses in the NSIC.
 
Bemidji State will look to rebound from their recent loss as they head to Winona, Minn., to face Winona State University. The game is scheduled for January 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
