Olson’s 20 not enough to overtake RV Warriors Saturday night

Bemidji State was tripped by Winona State Saturday night, taking an 80-64 loss to the Warriors

WINONA, Minn. – Bemidji State University Men's Basketball fell to (RV) Winona State University 80-64 on Saturday at McCown Gymnasium in Winona, MN.
 
The first half featured several scoring runs and turnovers, ending with a narrow 33-31 advantage for Winona State. Bemidji State started strong with Tate Olson hitting a three-pointer at 17:45 and later adding a layup at 16:02, contributing to an early lead. Daxton Dayley and Tate Olson both had key moments, with Dayley scoring a layup at 14:06 and Olson adding another three-pointer at 11:47 to help Bemidji State maintain their competitiveness. Despite a late push by the Warriors, which included a dunk by Tyler Mason at 1:07, Bemidji State stayed close with Malang Athian's three-pointer at 1:29, though they entered the break trailing by two.
 
In the second half, WSU outscored Bemidji State 47-33. Tate Olson and Daxton Dayley provided a boost for Bemidji State with a series of successful free throws and a critical three-pointer from Olson at the 2:00 mark. Olson's performance in this game marked his second of the season netting 20 points, tying his career high, which he had set in the first game of the season against the University of Central Missouri. Austin Josephson contributed significantly in clutch moments, hitting four free throws and a layup. Despite efforts from Jareon Mayo and Kaleb Larson, who each added a three-pointer late in the half, the Warriors maintained a steady lead throughout, closing the half with a 14-point advantage.
 
Bemidji State basketball features several standout players based on recent performances. Tate Olson led the team with 20 points, shooting 7-for-14 from the field and 4-for-8 from three-point range, while also contributing four assists and two steals. John Pecarich made an impact with three three-pointers, totaling 11 points. Jareon Mayo was notable for his defensive contributions, recording two steals and adding six rebounds. Daxton Dayley provided solid all-around support with seven points, three rebounds, and one steal. These athletes have shown significant contributions in scoring and defense for the team.
 
Bemidji State holds an overall record of six wins and ten losses, with a conference record of three wins and seven losses in the NSIC. Winona State has achieved thirteen wins and four losses overall, maintaining a strong conference record of eight wins and three losses in the NSIC.
 
Bemidji State will look to rebound from their recent loss as they face the University of Minnesota Duluth. The game is scheduled for January 17, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in Duluth, Minn.
