Beavers strike comeback but Falcons prevail in overtime

BSU Men’s Hockey falls 4-3 in overtime to Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bemidji State University Men's Hockey junior Adam Flammang scored with 44.4 seconds remaining and the Beavers' net empty to send BSU to overtime at Bowling Green State University Friday night but the Falcons scored 2:37 into the three-on-three overtime period to claim two points in Central Collegiate Hockey Association play.

Flammang recorded a goal and assist in the game while fellow junior Kirklan Irey also scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Beavers.

Bowling Green opened the scoring 9:38 into the first period to take the 1-0 lead and held it into the first intermission but 45 seconds in the second period, Irey netted his team-leading ninth goal of the season to tie the game.

The second period ended with the score locked 1-1 but 1:35 into the third period, sophomore Kasper Magnussen scored his first goal of the season with a power-play goal.

However, the Falcons responded just 33 seconds later to tie the game and then regained the lead with 7:59 to play.

The Beavers didn't falter and with goaltender Mattias Sholl pulled in favor of the 6-on-5 advantage and paid off when Flammang batted in the puck to score with 44.4 remaining.

The teams would then head to overtime to see who would gain the extra point in league standings and 2:37 into the period Bowling Green's Ryan O'Hara netted the game-winning goal.

With the loss, the Beavers fall to 9-10-3 on the season and 5-6-2 in league play but remain sixth in league standings with a .462 points percentage.

The Beavers will try to gain three league points tomorrow night for game two against the Falcons with puck drop slated for 7:07 p.m.
