Men’s Basketball falls to Augustana, 98-66

Beavers struggle to find a groove and fall to Vikings, 98-66, heading into a four-game road stint

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University fell to Augustana University Saturday evening with a final score of 98-66.
 
In the first half, Bemidji State saw Tate Olson make an early impact by scoring the first points with a layup and adding a 3-pointer to take an early lead. Olson continued to contribute significantly, hitting four free throws shortly after. John Sutherland also added to the score with a layup and two free throws, keeping the game close. However, Augustana managed a strong finish to the half, led by Sam Rensch and Tanner Te Slaa, who boosted their team's score, resulting in a 45-30 lead over the Beavers by the end of the half.
 
In the second half, Olson contributed significantly with a key layup at 17:48 and a 3-pointer at 8:32, alongside a crucial dunk at 1:05, highlighting his impact on the game. Austin Josephson and Daxton Dayley showed their versatility, with Josephson scoring a 3-pointer at 4:02 and Dayley assisting on multiple plays, including a 3-pointer at 1:00. Despite Bemidji State's efforts, Augustana capitalized on turnovers, increasing their lead with consistent scoring throughout the half, resulting in a 53-36 advantage for the visitors in this half.
 
Tate Olson emerged as a key player for BSU, starting the season with a strong opening performance. Marking his fourth double-double of the season, he scored 18 points, connecting on 6 of 12 basket attempts, and led the team with 13 rebounds. Jareon Mayo contributed significantly by making 3 of 5 3-point attempts, totaling 11 points. Daxton Dayley also had a notable game, scoring 13 points by shooting 5 of 9 from the field and hitting 3 3-pointers. 
 
Bemidji State holds an overall record of six wins and eight losses, with a conference record of three wins and five losses in the NSIC. Augustana has an overall record of seven wins and eight losses, and they stand at four wins and five losses in conference play.
 
The Beavers now look toward a four-game stretch of road games that begins with a trip to University of Minnesota Duluth next Friday at 7:30 p.m. The following day, they'll make the trip to Winona State University for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
