Beavers’ offense explodes to score second most goals in program history

BSU Women’s Soccer defeats MSU Moorhead 8-0 Sunday

MOORHEAD, Minn. —The Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team dominated Minnesota State University Moorhead with an 8-0 victory on Sunday at Nemzek Soccer Field in Moorhead, Minn. The Beavers scored the second most goals scored in the program's history. Bemidji State scored two goals in the first half and added six more in the second half to secure the decisive win.
 
Six Beavers scored a goal in the game with seniors Katrina Barthelt and Briana Stocke leading the team with five points each. Senior Kenzie Harer followed contributing one goal and two assists, with one being the game-winning goal among her four shots. Sophomore Madisen Fritel added a goal and an assist, with three of her four shots on goal. Senior Grace Kittel recorded one goal and one assist, managing to put five of her seven shots on target.
 
Bemidji State took control early in the first half, pressuring the Dragons' defense with multiple shots on goal. Katrina Barthelt's assist set up Kenzie Harer for the opening goal in the 23rd minute. Despite several offside calls and fouls, Bemidji State maintained their offensive momentum. In the 41st minute, Madisen Fritel extended the lead to 2-0 with assistance from Grace Kittel and Briana Stocke. The MSUM goalkeeper Rylee Truslow was kept busy throughout, making several key saves, but the visitors held a 2-0 advantage at the end of the half.
 
Bemidji State extended their lead early in the second half with a goal by Barthelt in the 47th minute, assisted by Harer. Barthelt struck again in the 62nd minute, once more with an assist from Harer, bringing the score to 4-0. Molly Burkstrand further increased the lead to 5-0 in the 68th minute, assisted by Fritel. Kittel added another goal for Bemidji State in the 71st minute. Stocke capped off the scoring with two late goals, one in the 88th minute assisted by Tirzah Lange, and an unassisted effort in the 89th minute, scoring just :46 seconds apart for the third fastest consecutive goals in program history.
 
The Beavers scored the second most goals (8) in program history, second most points (23), tied for the second most assists (7) and produced the second most shots (37) in the program's 30 seasons.
 
Bemidji State garnered three more points in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings and are now tied for third with 21 points on the season. The Beavers improved to 8-2-3 overall, 6-1-3 in conference play and are unbeaten in their last six matches.
 
The Beavers now return home and prepare to host Concordia University-St. Paul and Winona State University next weekend at Chet Anderson Stadium.
