BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team edged Winona State University 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Chet Anderson Stadium in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. Senior
Katrina Barthelt scored a penalty-kick goal in the 88
th minute to extend the Beavers' win streak to four matches and unbeaten streak to eight.

Bemidji State and Winona State began their match with both teams exchanging early chances. Winona State's Sarah Strating fired a shot in the second minute that was saved by Bemidji State's keeper,
Sonia Alfieri. Bemidji State struck first in the 13th minute when
Breanna Weilert scored off a corner from
Ella Wade for her first collegiate goal. Despite multiple attempts, including two shots by WSU's Madison Barnick in quick succession, the visitors were unable to equalize before the end of the first half.

Bemidji State applied early pressure in the second half with several shots, but Winona State's Abigail Rounds made key saves, including those from
Madeline Davey and
Maggie Kramer. The Warriors evened the scored in the 79th minute with a penalty kick goal by Jacey Sturek. Bemidji State responded in the 88th minute however, when Barthelt converted a penalty kick of her own to put the Beavers back on top.

The Beavers garnered three more points in the NSIC standings and are now tied for second with St. Cloud State Univeristy with 27 points and trail conference leader Minnesota State University, Mankato by seven with three matches to play.

The Beavers will put their unbeaten streak to the test on the road next weekend traveling to Northern State University and University of Jamestown on Halloween and Nov. 2, respectively.
