ABERDEEN, S.D. — Bemidji State University soccer edged Northern State University 1-0 on Thursday in Aberdeen, S.D. Bemidji State secured the victory with a goal in the second half, marking the only score of the game.
The first half between Bemidji State and Northern State ended scoreless, with both teams unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Bemidji State's
Megan Ko had an early attempt on goal in the 4th minute, but it was saved by Ilee Neemeyer.
Maggie Kramer also tested Neemeyer with a shot in the 41st minute, but the Northern State goalkeeper made another save. Northern State's offense was limited, with Chloe Voss's shot going wide in the 37th minute. The half concluded with both teams committing multiple fouls and offside infractions, leaving the score tied at 0-0.
The Beavers took control in the second half with a decisive goal by
Madisen Fritel in the 67th minute, putting them ahead 1-0. Bemidji State maintained offensive pressure, with Fritel nearly doubling the lead in the 75th minute, only to be denied by NSU's goalkeeper Ilee Neemeyer. Northern State attempted to respond, notably with a shot from Voss that went wide in the 69th minute. The Beavers held on to their lead, ending the half without conceding, to secure the victory.
Fritel scored the game-winning goal and finished with two shots on goal.
Sonia Alfieri recorded a shutout, facing five shots without a save required in 90 minutes. Ko tallied two shots, with one on target, contributing to the offensive efforts. Kramer added pressure with three shots, including one on goal.
Bemidji State now holds an overall record of 11-2-3 and stands at 9-1-3 in conference play. They head to Jamestown, N.D. Sunday afternoon to take on the University of Jamestown Jimmies at 1 p.m. The Beavers return to the Chet for the final game of the regular season on Thursday when they host the University of Minnesota Duluth.
