Beavers return to form with 1-0 victory over Marauders

Maggie Kramer nets first goal as BSU Women’s Soccer defeats Mary 1-0

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over University of Mary Thursday at Chet Anderson Stadium snapping a two-match winless streak (0-1-1). The decisive goal came in the first half, as sophomore Maggie Kramer capitalized on corner kick for the Beavers to score her first career goal propelling the Beavers to victory. Senior Sonia Alfieri was strong in goal for the Beavers stopping eight Marauder shots to secure her second shutout of the season.
 
Bemidji State and Mary began their match with both teams probing for an early advantage. Bemidji State took the lead in the 34th minute when Maggie Kramer scored, assisted by Ella Wade, to put the Beaveres ahead 1-0. Bemidji State's offensive pressure was marked by two earlier corner kicks and three shots, including a notable attempt from Emma Huelsnitz. On the defensive end, Alfieri made key saves against shots from Rio Spruenken and Dina Polanco, maintaining the lead as the first half concluded.
 
Bemidji State maintained their lead over the Marauders in a scoreless second half, despite a series of aggressive attempts by the visiting team. Alfieri, Bemidji State's goalkeeper, was pivotal, saving multiple shots from MaLiah Burke and Spruenken early in the half. The Mary offense continued to pressure with a total of seven shots on goal, but Alfieri and the Bemidji State defense held firm. Burke of Mary saw one of her shots saved by the team in the 77th minute, and Maggie Bono also had a close attempt that went over the top left. The match concluded with Bemidji State securing the victory, holding Mary scoreless
 
Alfieri was pivotal in goal, recording eight saves and maintaining a shutout in the victory. Kramer scored the game's only goal, which was also the game-winner, and added two shots. Wade contributed with an assist, boosting her season total. Huelsnitz managed a shot on goal, adding pressure to the opposing defense.
 
Bemidji State improved to 5-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Marauders fell to 2-4-2 overall and 0-3-2 in conference play.
 
Bemidji State now prepares to face Minot State University Sunday for another NSIC match at Chet Anderson Stadium scheduled for 1 p.m.
