Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Volleyball finished its season Saturday evening, falling to Winona State University in straight sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21, at home. Bemidji State recorded 35 kills and 44 digs, while the Warriors tallied 43 kills and 50 digs to secure the victory.
Bemidji State began the first set with a strong showing, highlighted by
Lily Riese and
Ava Athman, who each delivered critical kills, keeping the match competitive.
Madison Tripp played a pivotal role, assisting multiple scoring plays and helping the Beavers maintain momentum through the middle of the set. Despite a series of effective plays by the home team, Winona State capitalized on service aces and key kills by Abby Ongna to pull ahead, ultimately concluding the set with a 25-17 lead.
Bemidji State found momentum midway through the second set when Athman and
Nevaeh Carlson each delivered key kills, contributing to a brief lead at 6-4.
Karley Dunham added a service ace to extend their advantage to 8-5. However, the Warriors responded with a series of points, retaking the lead at 9-8. The teams exchanged points, with
Grace Hoffard and Riese achieving kills that kept the Beavers competitive at 14-14. Despite their efforts, Bemidji State couldn't halt Winona State's strong finish, as the visitors pulled away, ending the set with a 25-18 win.
Bemidji State found momentum midway through the third set with a strong performance led by Riese and Tripp. Riese achieved a crucial kill from a set by Tripp, leveling the score at 1-1. The home team continued to press forward, with Athman and
Isabella Vander Velden contributing a critical block that gave Bemidji State a lead at 3-2. Despite Bemidji State's efforts, including a service ace by
Anna Paquette that brought them within two points at 19-17, the Warriors managed to maintain their edge. Carlson added a late kill from Tripp, keeping Bemidji State in contention. However, Winona State ultimately captured the set with a 25-21 score, concluding the match.
Carlson led Bemidji State with 10 kills, contributing significantly to the team's offensive efforts. Tripp provided strong support with 19 assists and added a service ace. Riese was active at the net, recording nine kills while also contributing three digs. Vander Velden showcased her defensive skills with three total blocks and added two kills on three attempts.
The Beavers finish the season with a 7-21 overall record and stand at 4-16 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Warriors have an overall record of 16-12 and are 11-9 in the NSIC.
