The Beavers also extended their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) and remain unbeaten in CCHA play this season holding a 5-0-1 league record and sit atop the league standings with 14 points.
Bemidji St. secured an overtime victory against the Lakers in a tense matchup that unfolded as anticipated. " We knew this was the way it was going to play out today," said head coach
Tom Serratore. He acknowledged the challenging moment of conceding a goal in the final minutes of regulation but praised his team for their resilience in overtime. LSSU displayed significant urgency, particularly in the second and third periods, as Serratore noted, "They had a lot of desperation... When they're down a goal, they're going to have more juice." The game featured standout performances from both goaltenders, with crucial breakaway saves keeping the contest tight. Bemidji State's penalty kill was effective, limiting opportunities for LSSU and contributing to the home team's success. Sophomore
Alexi Sylvestre contributed significantly with two primary assists, while
Oliver Peer's speed was advantageous in the 3-on-3 overtime format.
Action unfolded swiftly with Bemidji State's
Adam Flammang capitalizing at 9:03, scoring the period's only goal with assists from
Alexi Sylvestre and
Jake McLean. Both teams had opportunities, including blocked shots and saves, but Bemidji State maintained the 1–0 advantage. Despite penalties on both sides, the defenses held firm, and the period concluded with the Beavers leading.
The second period between Bemidji St. and LSSU was marked by defensive stands and missed opportunities. Bemidji State's
Max Namestnikov hit the pipe early at 17:51, but the scoring remained elusive for both teams. LSSU had a power play opportunity following a slashing penalty at 16:11, but Bemidji State's penalty kill and goaltender
Max Hildebrand held firm, making several key saves. The period concluded with Bemidji State on a power play after a slashing penalty against Calem Mangone at 00:57, yet neither team managed to break the deadlock, keeping the score level at the end of the period.
LSSU tied the game early in the third period as Hunter Ramos scored at 12:34 with assists from Ryan Beck and Evan Bushy, bringing the score to 1-1. Bemidji State responded swiftly with
Mitch Wolfe finding the back of the net at 7:37, assisted by
Alexi Sylvestre and
Noah Quinn, to regain a 2-1 lead. However, the Lakers capitalized on a power play opportunity with their net empty at 2:18, with William Ahlrik scoring the equalizer assisted by Adam Barone and Calem Mangone. The period concluded at 2-2, with Bemidji State unable to reclaim the lead despite late attempts.
Bemidji State secured a victory over LSSU in an intense overtime showdown. The decisive moment came at 2:06 when Peer netted the game-winning goal, assisted by Flammang, marking his sixth of the season. The period featured strategic faceoff wins for Bemidji State, including one by Peer himself that set the stage for the winning play. Hildebrand contributed crucial saves early in the period, maintaining the home team's defensive stance before the final breakthrough.
Bemidji State improved to 7-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in conference play after their victory. The Lakers fell to 3-6-1 overall and 0-4-0 in conference competition.
The Beavers next hit the road to travel to Houghton, Michigan for a premiere matchup featuring the top two teams in the CCHA standings. The Beavers take on the Michigan Tech Huskies Nov. 14-15 for a two-game, CCHA series.
