MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team put on a dominating performance Friday night at Saint Thomas Ice Arena earning a convincing 5-0 victory over University of St. Thomas in their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series opener.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Beavers and was their first road victory of the season and first since Dec. 9, 2023. The Beavers also defeated the Tommies for the fourth consecutive game and are 5-0-1 over their last six meetings.

The Beavers took the one-goal lead into the first intermission and Filippova shut the door on the Tommines in the second to keep the Beavers in front after the first two period. BSU played with the one-goal lead for just 35 seoncds in the third period and got the much needed two-goal lead when freshman Izy Fairchild was awarded a penalty shot and converted on her first collegiate attempt to score her fifth goal of the season.

It was just the second time in program history the Beavers scored a penalty-shot goal and the first since Feb. 11, 2011 (Erin Cody).

BSU held onto the two-goal lead for most of the remaining period until just under three minutes to play when a flurry of Beaver goals was scored. Armstrong started the flurry scoring her second of the game and No. 10 on the season with 2:47 to play.
