BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Women's Basketball (6-19) fell to No. 12 Concordia University, St. Paul (25-2) with a final score of 70-39 on Friday.
In the first quarter, Bemidji State took an early lead with
Erin Barrette scoring a layup at 8:11, followed by
Rachel Koenig's defensive rebound, facilitating another layup by
Aubrey Heyer at 7:39.
Ashlynne Guenther contributed with a successful layup at 6:03, extending the lead to 10-5. Bemidji State maintained the advantage until a late surge by CSP, including a 3-pointer by Julia Bengtson at 2:30, shifted the momentum. The quarter concluded with Bemidji State trailing 18-12, despite strong efforts in the paint by Barrette and Heyer.
In the second quarter, Bemidji State's
Aubrey Heyer made notable contributions defensively with key blocks at 8:35 and 4:30, while
Tieryn Plasch connected on a 3-pointer at 8:22, assisted by
Ashlynne Guenther. Despite these efforts, turnovers were an issue for Bemidji State, with six committed in the quarter, allowing CSP to capitalize and extend their lead.
Sydney White scored a jumper at 4:47, and
Sage Ganyo added a layup in the final seconds to bring Bemidji State's quarter total to seven points, but CSP outscored them with 20 points for the quarter.
In the third quarter, Bemidji State outscored CSP 11-9, with a notable performance by
Alayna Suprenand, who contributed seven points, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Sydney White added a jumper at 7:09, while
Ella Giorgi scored a layup at 2:23. The team also capitalized on defensive plays, with
Erin Barrette and
Tieryn Plasch making key steals. CSP's efforts were highlighted by a fast-break 3-pointer from Ashley Schuelke at 1:24, but Bemidji State's defensive rebounds, including one by
Beth Bolte at 2:14, helped limit their scoring opportunities.
In the fourth quarter, Bemidji St. scored nine points, highlighted by
Sydney White's jumper at 6:47 and
Alayna Suprenand's 3-pointer at 3:06.
Rachel Koenig added four points from free throws, with two successful attempts at both 5:43 and 4:32. Defensively,
Janette Hanni recorded a steal at the 0:31 mark. Despite a strong effort, Bemidji St. committed six turnovers and struggled to contain CSP's offense, leading to a 23-point performance by the visitors in the quarter.
Alayna Suprenand led the Bemidji St. basketball team with 10 points, shooting 2-for-4 from beyond the arc and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.
Aubrey Heyer demonstrated strong rebounding with a team-high 8 rebounds, all defensive, and added 4 points.
Ella Giorgi contributed defensively with 3 blocks while also securing 6 rebounds.
Erin Barrette and
Sydney White each added 6 points, with Barrette shooting 3-for-6 from the field and White matching that performance.
Bemidji State holds an overall record of six wins and 19 losses, with a conference record of four wins and 17 losses in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Golden Bears have achieved an overall record of 25 wins and two losses, with a conference record of 19 wins and two losses in the same conference.
Up next, Bemidji State will finish the season against the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. for Senior Day. The Women's Basketball senior class will be recognized at halftime of the men's game.
