BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team fell in two one-score matches in Duluth, Minn., Saturday afternoon falling 3-4 to College of St. Scholastica and University of Minnesota Duluth in non-conference play.

The Beavers began the doubleheader falling in a close match to the Saints 3-4 and then fell 3-4 to the Bulldogs later in the afternoon.

Against the Saints, freshmen
Mia Leshem,
Lauren Rutten, and
Julia Lindseth each earned wins in single play at No. 2, 5 and 6 singles, respectively. In doubles action, the team of graduate
Sophie Groen and Leshem defeated Maier and Sendele 6-3 at No. 1 doubles for the Beavers lone doubles win.

Against the Bulldogs, Groen and Leshem each defeated their opponent in No. 1 and 2 singles while the Beavers earned their third point with two doubles wins. Groen and Leshem again combined for a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles while Lindseth and Rutten earned their first doubles win at No. 3 doubles defeating Friedrich and Folden 7-5.

The Beavers now begin Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Feb. 22-23 and travel to Virginia, Minn., to face Minnesota Duluth again and St. Cloud State University.

The Beavers are now 1-1 on the season and continue non-conference play tomorrow with a doubleheader against College of St. Scholastica and University of Minnesota Duluth in Duluth, Minn. The Beavers battle the Saints beginning at 10:30 a.m., before a non-conference match against the Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m.
