WINONA, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team captured its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory of the season Friday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Winona State University in Winona, Minn. The Beavers and Warriors split their doubleheader Friday but Winona State won the overall series, 3-1, after a doubleheader sweep Thursday.
Senior pitcher
Brandon Lind powered the Beavers to their first conference victory of 2025 and first win since the season opener on Feb. 26 after he pitched a complete game allowing just two hits, one run and struck out a career-high 10 batters. Lind carried a no-hitter through five innings before the Warriors broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth.
The Beavers' bats came alive in the game collecting six hits in the game including five extra-base hits. Senior
Zach Evenson put the Beavers on the board first with his team-leading fifth home run of the season with a two-run blast in the first inning.
Sophomore
Matt Filippi then added to the Beavers' lead with a sacrifice bunt to score
Hunter Hyden after he doubled. BSU then took a 4-0 lead with an RBI single from
Noah Drusch while Hyden doubled again in the fifth inning that scored two to put the Beavers up by six.
Winona State snapped Lind's attempt at the complete game shutout in the seventh inning with a solo home run.
Hyden and sophomore
Beau Thoma each lead the Beaves with two doubles while Hyden and Evenson paced the team with two RBI.
Winona Sate earned the overall series victory with 12-0 and 6-5 victories Thursday and then won game four 12-1.
Hyden paced the Beavers with five hits in the series while Thoma followed with four.
The Beavers now travel home for a scheduled home series with University of Sioux Falls April 4-6 but will watch the weather to see if lasting winter effects at BSU Baseball Field will force the series to be moved.
