SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team rallied back from a game one loss to force the decisive game three tomorrow evening after defeating Augustana University 4-3 Saturday night in game two of their Central Collegiate Hockey Association Mason Cup Quarterfinal series in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Â
Four different skaters scored for the Beavers as they evened the quarterfinal series 1-1. The teams will now play the decisive game three tomorrow evening with puck drop scheduled for 5:07 p.m.
Â
Fifth-year senior and CCHA Defensive Forward of the Year finalist
Jackson Jutting led the Beavers scoring a goal and adding an assist for the two-point night while junior
Vince Corcoran collected two assists for his second career two assist effort.
Â
Senior
Mattias Sholl earned his 51
st career win after he turned aside 23-of-26 shots and collected seventh career playoff victory.
Â
After the second straight night with a scoreless first period, junior
Reilly Funk opened the scoring 2:43 into the second period scoring his seventh goal of the season while on a Beaver power play.
Â
Â
4:02 later, Jutting put the Beavers up by two with his team-leading 13
th goal of the season after a no-look, behind the back pass from sophomore
Noah Quinn.
Â
Â
However, just 52 seconds later, Augustana's Quinn Rudrud stopped the Beavers scoring streak with an even-strength goal 7:37 into the frame.
Â
It would seem the Beavers would carry the one-goal lead into the second intermission but with just 19.9 seconds left in the period, Augie's Simon Falk netted his second goal of the series to tie the game just before the second intermission.
Â
The teams then battled in the third period looking for the go-ahead goal and 4:05 into the final frame, senior defenseman
Tony Follmer scored just his third career goal and second of the season with a well-placed shot from the point.
Â
Â
The Beavers kept their attack going and just 51 seconds later, junior
Adam Flammang put them back up by two with his fourth goal of the season.
Â
Â
The Vikings would make it interesting with 10:40 left in the game with a goal from Nace Langus to make it 4-3, but Sholl and the Beavers' defense stayed strong and came away with the series tying, 4-3 win.
Â
The Beavers' power play finished the game going 1-for-3 and have scored a power-play goal in three of the last four games and ranks third in the CCHA with a power-play percentage of .245. The Beavers' penalty kill denied the Vikings on their lone chance of the game and are a perfect 7-for-7 in the series.
Â
The Beavers brought the pressure early to the Vikings totaling 15 of the team's 34 shots within the first 20 minutes of the game. Freshman
Jaksen Panzer led the team with a season-high six shots on goal.
Â
Game three of the series is slated for 5:07 p.m., tomorrow evening at Midco Arena with season-ending stakes on the line.
