No. 8 Mavericks sweep Beavers in Mankato

BSU Baseball falls in four games to No. 8 Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team fell in four games to No. 8 Minnesota State University, Mankato over the weekend in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball action. The Beavers fell 7-0, 16-2, 12-0 and a close 10-6 battle Sunday afternoon.
 
Matt Filippi led the Beavers at the plate batting .421 in the series collecting eight hits in 19 at bats while Adrian Falcon followed batting .333 with seven hits in 21 at bats including one home run and drove in three runs. Zach Evenson led the Beavers driving in six runs with two doubles and one home run while also batting .316 at the plate.
 
Adrian Falcon stood out for Bemidji State University in multiple games, recording two hits, including a home run, and driving in three runs in one game, while also contributing two hits in three at-bats in another. Zach Evenson made an impact as the designated hitter, going 1-for-3 with a double in one game. Dylan Hedley contributed significantly with a home run and one RBI in one game and reached base twice in another, drawing a walk and being hit by a pitch while scoring one run. Matt Filippi showed skill at the plate, hitting 2-for-3 with a double and scoring one run while adding a stolen base.
 
On the mound, Brandon Lind pitched five innings in one game, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs while striking out six batters. He threw 107 pitches, 73 of which were strikes, and recorded eight flyouts and one groundout. Josh Haugen started another game, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing 10 earned runs on seven hits, which included one home run, while issuing four walks and hitting three batters. Matt Greiner had a solid relief performance in two separate games, first pitching 1 2/3 innings and allowing just one hit and one earned run while striking out one batters and then delivering another solid outing for one inning without allowing any runs or walks, inducing three groundouts.
 
Connor Donlin pitched 2 1/3 innings for the Beavers, giving up five hits and three earned runs while striking out one batter. Meanwhile, Liam McGrath opened one game for the Beavers with a brief outing, allowing three earned runs on two hits while striking out one batter and walking two. Bret Inman pitched one inning, giving up two runs on two hits without allowing a walk, and Daniel Pobuda closed another game, allowing two earned runs on three hits while recording one strikeout. Beau Barry contributed 1 1/3 innings, yielding one earned run on one hit and walking two while recording a strikeout. Cole Smith closed with 1 2/3 innings, surrendering two earned runs on one hit and a home run while striking out three and walking two.
 
The Beavers now begin a seven-game home stand beginning with a doubleheader against University of Minnesota Crookston Tuesday, April 15 at BSU Baseball Field.
