BEMIDJI, Minn. – After falling in the first two games against Northern State University Friday, the Bemidji State University Baseball team responded with a commanding 10-2 victory over the Wolves Saturday afternoon at the BSU Baseball Field.
The Beavers fell in two close games in Friday's doubleheader against the Wolves but put together a complete game from the mound and the batter's box to earn the eight-run victory. The Beavers totaled a season-high 13 hits in the game including a season-high five doubles and also tied a season-high eight walks.
Northern State earned two, two-run victories in their doubleheader Friday but the Beavers outscored the Wolves in the series 19-15. Bemidji State's starting pitching staff also shined in the series combining to allow just six earned runs over 20 total innings for a 2.70 ERA and were led by senior
Brandon Lind who started and earned the Beavers win Saturday after pitching seven innings of shutout baseball. He allowed just two hits in the game and struck out five to hold opponents to just a .087 batting average.
BSU also had a dominant pitching performance from
Jacob Smith in game two Friday after Smith pitched six innings including 4.1 innings of perfect baseball before allowing his first base runner. He allowed just one earned run off three hits, struck out four and didn't walk a batter in a no decision effort.
At the plate, junior
Adrian Falcon led the Beavers totaling 14 bases in the series and drove in a team-high seven runs. He batting .462 at the plate with a 1.077 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage after totaling six hits in 13 at bats with two doubles and two home runs.
Freshman
Jack Feldman led the Beavers with a .556 batting average with five hits in nine at bats, hit one double, drew four walks, had a team-high .714 on-base percentage and went 2-for-2 in stolen bases. Sophomore
Beau Thoma also batted .400 in the series with six hits in a team-high 15 at bats, scored four runs and hit his team-leading ninth double of the season Saturday.
Coming out of the bullpen, freshman
Matt Greiner led the team with two appearances and didn't allow a run over his two innings pitched. He allowed just one hit and held the Wolves to just a .167 batting average. Fellow freshman
Connor Donlin led the bullpen with 2.1 innings pitched and posted a 3.86 ERA allowing just two runs (one earned) off four hits.
The Beavers snapped a nine-game losing streak with their victory Saturday afternoon and moved to 5-32 on the season and 4-26 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
BSU now concludes its seven-game home stand by hosting University of Mary at BSU Baseball Field Wednesday, April 23 with a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m.
