BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team fell in both games of its mid-week doubleheader against University of Mary Wednesday afternoon at the BSU Baseball Field in Bemidji. The Beavers fell to the Marauders 10-1 in game one and 12-2 in game two in two seven-inning outings.
In a challenging doubleheader against the Marauders, sophomore
Matt Filippi emerged as a standout performer for the Beavers. In the first game, he showcased his dual talent with a home run and an RBI, also pitching four innings where he allowed five runs, with only two earned, on four hits while striking out one batter. In the second game, Filippi continued to shine with two hits in four at-bats, scoring one run.
The Beavers received contributions from several players across both games. Sophomore
Beau Thoma made his mark defensively with three assists while playing shortstop in both games.
Hudson Filippi added an RBI in the second game, going 1-for-3.
Hunter Hyden chipped in with a base hit in three at-bats and executed a successful sacrifice hit.
Dylan Hedley reached base twice in the second game, collecting one hit and one walk in three plate appearances.
On the mound, Bemidji State's pitching staff faced significant challenges throughout the doubleheader. In the first game,
Connor Donlin pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and three runs, with two of those runs being earned. He recorded one strikeout and one walk.
Derek Hoffman started the second game, recording three strikeouts over three innings despite allowing six earned runs on six hits, including three home runs.
Further relief efforts featured
Matt Greiner, who pitched one inning, giving up three runs— all unearned— on two hits and striking out one.
Devon Cook faced a brief outing, allowing one earned run on two hits and a walk in 1/3 of an inning.
Ty Schulte provided solid relief with 2/3 of an inning pitched, allowing no hits or runs while striking out one.
Riley Czech contributed one inning, yielding one run on one hit and one walk with a strikeout, while
Cam McRoberts closed with one inning, allowing one earned run without a hit but issuing three walks.
The Beavers now hit the road for a three-game series at Concordia University-St. Paul beginning with a doubleheader Saturday, April 26.
