MINOT, N.D. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak after earning a 5-1 victory in game one of its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader at Minot State University Tuesday afternoon in Minot, N.D. The Beavers split the doubleheader after Minot State responded with an 8-4 victory in game two.
Sophomore
Matt Filippi stood out in the first game, going 2-for-4, scoring twice, and driving in two runs with a home run while also pitching five innings, allowing just three hits and no runs, earning the win to improve his record to 2-3.
Adrian Falcon contributed with a 2-for-4 outing, adding an RBI as well. Defensively,
Noah Drusch made an impact at second base with four assists and contributed to two double plays.
Freshman
Matt Greiner pitched one inning in relief, allowing three hits and one earned run while facing five batters. Junior
Cole Smith also contributed one inning, giving up just one hit with no runs, striking out one batter, and facing four batters without allowing any runners. Together, they effectively supported Filippi's start to get the win.
In the second game,
Derek Hoffman took the mound for 5 2/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs while striking out eight batters and issuing one walk.
Connor Donlin came in for one inning of relief, surrendering two hits and one earned run with no strikeouts. Greiner returned to pitch 1/3 of an inning, allowing no hits or runs, while Smith closed the game with one inning, yielding two hits and two earned runs.
In the second game,
Beau Thoma, a sophomore shortstop, led the Beavers with two RBIs, both coming with two outs, including a double and one hit in four at-bats. Drusch excelled on the bases with two stolen bases, showcasing his speed and base-running skills. Freshman
Jack Feldman added a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base, highlighting his versatility as a center fielder.
The Beavers now return home to close out the 2025 season with a four-game series at BSU Baseball Field. The Beavers host St. Cloud State University beginning with a doubleheader Friday, May 2 and ending with two more games Saturday.
