DULUTH, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team opened its season with a decisive 7-0 victory over the College of St. Scholastica Saturday at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center, followed by a hard-fought 4-3 victory against the University of Minnesota Duluth later in the day. The Beavers showcased their strength in both doubles and singles play, securing all three doubles matches in the first game and winning the doubles point in the second.
In the match against St. Scholastica,
Paula Garcia Acebal led the charge with a win at No. 1 singles and contributed to a victory at No. 2 doubles. Ana Lucia Ibanez Castro also impressed with a success at No. 4 singles and a win at No. 3 doubles.
Mia Leshem secured a win at No. 2 singles and helped clinch victory at No. 1 doubles. The Beavers demonstrated their dominance in doubles, with Leshem and
Marla Davies winning 6-3 at No. 1, while Garcia Acebal and
Lauren Rutten matched that score at No. 2. Ibanez Castro and
Valesca Rodriguez completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play against St. Scholastica, Garcia Acebal triumphed 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, Leshem dominated with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2, and Davies added a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3. Ibanez claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4, while Rutten secured a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 5. Rodriguez rounded out the sweep with a 7-6, 6-0 victory at No. 6.

In singles play against UMD, Leshem delivered a solid performance at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Davies won convincingly at No. 3 singles, finishing 6-2, 6-2, while Ibanez secured a straight-set win at No. 4 with a score of 7-5, 6-3. Garcia Acebal battled hard at No. 2 but fell 2-6, 6-1, 9-11, while Rutten faced a tough defeat at No. 5 singles, losing 2-6, 0-6. Rodriguez fought through a challenging match at No. 6, ultimately losing 3-6, 7-5, 8-10.
