Beaver Tennis gets off to best start in program on record with two more victories

BSU Women’s Tennis improves to 4-0 with wins over Minnesota Morris and Minnesota Crookston

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team triumphed in two matches at Choice Health and Fitness, first defeating the University of Minnesota Morris 7-0 and then overcoming University of Minnesota Crookston 5-2 Friday in Grand Forks, N.D.
 
The Beavers have won their first four matches of the season marking the program's best start to a season on record.
 
In the first match of the day against Minnesota Morris, Bemidji State claimed all three doubles matches, securing the doubles point, and swept all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the shutout. Paula Garcia Acebal posted a victory in both singles and doubles, contributing significantly to her team's success. Ana Lucia Ibanez and Valesca Rodriguez also recorded wins in singles and collaborated in doubles for additional points. Julia Lindseth collected a singles win and paired with Lauren Rutten in doubles for a triumph. Britney Schommer rounded out the strong performances with a singles win.
 
Bemidji State secured the doubles point decisively with wins across all three courts. The duo of Garcia Acebal and Marla Davies clinched a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. Rodriguez and Ibanez mirrored this performance with a 6-0 result at No. 2 doubles. On No. 3 doubles, Rutten and Lindseth completed the sweep with a 6-2 score.
 
In singles, Bemidji State continued their dominance, winning all six matches in straight sets. Garcia Acebal delivered a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, followed by Ibanez with a 6-2, 6-1 result at No. 2 singles. Rutten posted a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, while Rodriguez also secured a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 4 singles. Schommer triumphed 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and Lindseth closed the day with a 6-0, 6-2 result at No. 6 singles. This comprehensive performance showcased Bemidji State's strength across all matches.

In their next match, Bemidji State faced Minnesota Crookston, where they secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions and clinched the match with singles wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6. Mia Leshem secured a victory at No. 1 singles and teamed with Marla Davies to earn a win at No. 1 doubles. Paula Garcia Acebal also posted a triumph at No. 2 singles despite a setback in No. 2 doubles. Valesca Rodriguez recorded a win at No. 6 singles and contributed in No. 3 doubles with Ana Lucia Ibanez. Lauren Rutten finished with a win at No. 5 singles.
 
Bemidji State dropped the doubles point against Minnesota Crookston, despite a win on No. 1 doubles. Davies and Leshem secured a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Rutten and Garcia Acebal fell 4-6 at No. 2 doubles. The match on No. 3 doubles concluded with Rodriguez and Ibanez winning 7-6, 10-8.
 
In singles, Leshem engineered a comeback at No. 1 singles, winning 3-6, 6-2, 10-0. Garcia Acebal claimed victory at No. 2 singles with a closely contested 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 scoreline. Rutten rallied from a set down to secure a 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 win at No. 5 singles. Rodriguez delivered a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, finishing 6-3, 6-2. However, Bemidji State faced challenges as Marla Davies was defeated 3-6, 1-6 at No. 3 singles, and Ana Lucia Ibanez fell 1-6, 3-6 at No. 4 singles.
