KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team faced (RV) Rockhurst University in a doubleheader Wednesday, falling to the Hawks in both games with final scores of 15-7 and 10-6.
In the first game, Bemidji State scored a season-high seven runs on 11 hits, with
Noah Drusch contributing a home run. Despite their efforts, the Hawks' seven-run fourth inning and four-run sixth inning proved decisive.
Joe Hansen led the Beavers with three hits, one run scored, and an OPS of 1.500. Drusch also made a significant impact, hitting a home run, scoring twice, and posting an OPS of 2.750.
Nash Rubins drove in two runs, scored once, and successfully stole a base, while
Adrian Falcon added two RBIs with two hits to enhance the team's offensive efforts.
On the pitching side for Bemidji State,
Joey Koch started the game, allowing three earned runs on two hits in one inning.
Castle Huggard pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up another three earned runs on four hits.
Bret Inman struggled in his brief appearance, allowing three earned runs on three hits in just 1/3 of an inning.
Cole Smith and
Jack Barnett faced challenges in their outings, with Smith conceding two runs on two hits and Barnett giving up four runs on two hit.
Ethan Biehn pitched a scoreless inning despite allowing two hits, and
Connor Donlin closed the game with one inning, surrendering no runs on one hit.
The game flow saw RU take an early lead in the first inning with three runs, highlighted by J. Syfert's walk and M. Laudando's single, followed by D. Hanna's two-RBI double. Bemidji State responded in the second inning, tying the game at 3-3 with contributions from Falcon and Rubins. However, RU quickly regained the lead in the third inning, and after a strong performance in the fourth, ended with a dominant 15-7 victory.
In the second game, Bemidji State managed a late rally with three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth, but it was not enough to overcome RU's early lead. The Hawks capitalized on a four-run fourth inning to secure their victory.
Beau Thoma stood out with two RBIs and a hit, adding a run and a walk.
Joe Hansen recorded one hit and one RBI, while
Noah Drusch doubled and scored a run, in addition to an extra walk.
Jack Feldman finished with two hits and two RBIs, scoring twice during key moments.
Josh Haugen pitched four innings for Bemidji State, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, along with three walks and two hit batters, while striking out six.
Devon Cook entered in relief, giving up two earned runs on two hits and a walk over one inning, striking out two batters.
Tyson Hagen closed the game with a scoreless inning, walking one and inducing three groundouts.
RU took an early lead in the first inning with a two-run double by D. Hanna and extended their advantage to 4-0 in the second inning. Bemidji State found its rhythm in the fifth inning, as
Ben Corradi walked and Feldman singled, leading Thoma to drive in two runs with a single. Hansen added another RBI single, but the Hawks maintained their lead at 10-3 after five innings. In the sixth, the Beavers put up two more runs, with
Nash Rubins crossing the plate on Feldman's single and
Hudson Filippi doubling to score Feldman. In the seventh inning, a sacrifice fly from Feldman accounted for the final run, bringing Drusch home and closing the game at 10-6.
Looking ahead, Bemidji State battles Rockhurst University tomorrow for another doubleheader beginning at Noon.
