Beavers fall to Northern State in high scoring series finale

BSU Baseball falters in 20-13 loss to Northern State Monday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team fell to Northern State University in a high-scoring affair, 20-13, Monday afternoon in their series finale at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. Bemidji State tallied 14 hits, including a home run, and capitalized on seven walks. Despite a six-run fifth inning that briefly narrowed the margin, NSU's seven-run seventh inning sealed the game.
 
Noah Drusch recorded a standout performance with three hits, including a home run, contributing two RBIs and scoring three runs while also adding a stolen base from the second base position. Nash Rubins posted three hits and three RBIs, highlighted by a double, and successfully stole two bases during the game. Wyatt Gavin added two RBIs with a hit in three at-bats, while also scoring once. Beau Thoma crossed the plate three times, reaching base with two hits and a walk, showing consistency at the leadoff spot.
 
Bemidji State opened the game with a strong start as Beau Thoma singled and Drusch followed with a two-run homer to right center, giving them an early lead. The score was 2-0 after the first inning.
 
The Wolves cut the lead to 2-1 in the second inning, scoring on a groundout following a fielding error.
 
The visitors took control in the third inning, scoring four runs. A triple by Benson brought in two runs, and additional runs scored on a single and a double. The inning ended with NSU leading 5-2.
 
NSU extended its lead in the fourth inning, adding four more runs, including two on a double by Castella. The score stood at 9-2.
 
Bemidji State responded in the fifth inning. After Thoma and Drusch reached base, a series of wild pitches and a single by Wyatt Gavin brought in four runs, closing the gap to 12-8 after adding a total of six runs in the inning.
 
Drusch scored again in the sixth inning on a single by Rubins, bringing the score to 13-9.
 
In the seventh, Rubins and Cooper Anderson each delivered RBI singles, part of a four-run inning for Bemidji State. However, NSU's seven-run inning solidified its lead, resulting in a final score of 20-13.
 
Looking ahead, Bemidji State will face St. Cloud State University at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn., for a three-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series.
