Huskies claim both games of series opening doubleheader against Beavers

BSU Baseball defeated 15-1 and 10-5 in doubleheader against St. Cloud State at US Bank Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team faced a tough doubleheader against St. Cloud State University at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn., Saturday afternoon, dropping both games by scores of 15–1 and 10–5.
 
In the first game, Bemidji State struggled offensively, managing only one run in the first inning. The Huskies overwhelmed the Beavers with 20 hits, including one home run, five doubles, and two triples. Beau Thoma recorded two hits and scored one run, while Joe Hansen added one hit and made two defensive assists at third base. Matt Filippi made a notable defensive impact at first base with seven putouts and two assists.
 
Josh Haugen started on the mound for Bemidji State, pitching three innings and allowing seven earned runs on eight hits, while issuing two walks and hitting three batters. Connor Donlin followed with one inning of relief, giving up one run on two hits and one walk. Carter Scanlon pitched two innings, conceding seven runs on eight hits, which included two doubles, two triples, and a home run, along with one strikeout. Tyson Hagen closed out the game with a scoreless inning, striking out one and allowing two hits.
 
The game saw St. Cloud State take an early lead with a six-run first inning, highlighted by a double from Frank and a two-RBI single from Konkol. Bemidji State responded briefly with Thoma's single and subsequent run on a throwing error, making it 6–1 after the first. The Huskies continued to build their lead, scoring in every inning afterwards, culminating in a five-run sixth to seal the victory at 15–1.
 
In the second game, Bemidji State showed some resilience, managing six hits, including two home runs and a double, but ultimately fell short again as St. Cloud State powered their offense with 13 hits, five doubles, and a triple. Beau Thoma again made an impact with a home run and two RBIs. Adrian Falcon contributed with two runs and an RBI, aided by a double, while Hudson Filippi also hit a home run and scored once. Riley Czech stood out on the mound, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
 
Joey Koch started for the Beavers, pitching 5 1/3 innings while allowing eight hits and five earned runs, striking out three and issuing one walk. Andrew Murphy came in as relief, giving up five hits and four earned runs over 1 1/3 innings. Czech's relief effort was a highlight, as he closed the game without allowing a hit, walk, or run.
 
St. Cloud State took an early lead in the second game, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Beavers managed to close the gap in the third when Thoma hit a two-run home run, making the score 3–2. However, St. Cloud State responded with a strong sixth inning, pushing the lead to 6–2. The Huskies extended their advantage to 10–2 by the seventh inning. Bemidji State attempted a late comeback, scoring three runs in the ninth, but ultimately fell with a final score of 10–5.
 
The two teams will play their series finale tomorrow beginning at Noon.
