BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team faced off against Minot State University in their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader Sunday at BSU Baseball Field, suffering defeats in both games with final scores of 8-3 and 5-2. The Beavers celebrated their 11 seniors in part of Senior Day honoring

In the first game, Bemidji State managed to score two runs in the third inning and added another in the ninth, highlighted by a home run from
Noah Drusch. The Beavers fell short as Minot State secured the victory with consistent scoring, including a three-run fifth inning.
Hunter Hyden contributed with two hits and one RBI, while
Matt Filippi added a double and an RBI, demonstrating efficiency at the plate. On the mound,
Lucas Ferreira pitched three innings in relief, allowing only one hit and striking out three.
Jack Barnett started the game for Bemidji State, pitching six innings with nine hits and seven runs allowed, six of which were earned. He struck out one and walked three, throwing a total of 89 pitches. Ferreira's relief appearance was a bright spot, as he pitched three scoreless innings and effectively limited Minot State's scoring opportunities.
The game flow saw Minot State take an early lead in the second inning. O. Pegg scored on J. Orthner's RBI single, putting Minot State ahead 1-0. In the third inning, the Beavers narrowed the gap to 3-2 after scoring two runs, but Minot State responded with further scoring, including O. Pegg's two-run homer in the fifth. Despite Drusch's late solo home run, the final score was Minot State 8, Bemidji State 3.
In the second game, the Beavers again faced challenges, as Minot State jumped out to a decisive lead with a four-run first inning. Bemidji State scored its runs in the third and fourth innings, but left 13 runners on base, hampering its comeback efforts.
Jack Feldman and
Beau Thoma each contributed two hits, with Thoma scoring a run.
Noah Drusch drove in a run and stole a base, showcasing his versatility.
Devon Cook pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and five runs, three of which were earned. He issued six walks and struck out three, throwing a total of 102 pitches.
Marcus Haire and
Cole Smith provided solid relief, with Smith striking out one and not allowing any hits.
Minot State's early scoring was fueled by a fielding error and a balk, allowing J. Anderson's single to bring in two runs, followed by RBIs from C. Talley and N. Hutchison. Bemidji State finally got on the board in the third inning, narrowing the deficit to 5-1, and added another run in the fourth to make it 5-2. However, they were unable to add more runs in the final innings, leading to a 5-2 loss.
The Beavers now travel to University of Mary and Bismarck, N.D., for a doubleheader Tuesday, April 28.
