BISMARCK, N.D. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team faced a challenging doubleheader at University of Mary Tuesday at Municipal Ballpark in Bismarck, N.D., narrowly losing the first game 3–2 and then following up with a 7–5 defeat in the second game.
In the first game, Bemidji State scored in the sixth and seventh innings, including a home run, but could not overcome the Marauders' early lead, which included a pivotal two-run fourth. The teams combined for 15 hits in the seven-inning game.
Hunter Hyden made a significant impact by hitting a home run and driving in two runs.
Beau Barry pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs over six innings while striking out three.
Beau Thoma contributed with two hits, one of which was a double.
Jack Feldman added to the team's offensive effort with one hit and scored one run.
Barry pitched a complete game, the first for Bemidji State this season, throwing six innings and allowing seven hits and three earned runs. He struck out three batters and walked two while hitting two batters. Barry tossed 100 pitches, 63 of which were strikes, in the performance that brought his record to 3-5.
The Marauders took an early lead in the third inning. After a single by Walker, C., and a fielder's choice that left Ramirez, M. on base, Griffin, H. singled, advancing Ramirez to second. Butts, M. then delivered an RBI single up the middle, scoring Ramirez. The score was 1–0 in favor of the Marauders after three innings.
In the fourth inning, the Marauders extended their lead. Leafgren, B. doubled to left center and advanced to third on a ground out. Ramirez, M. singled to right field, driving in Leafgren and Wilson, C. The score stood at 3–0 for the Marauders through four innings.
Bemidji State responded in the sixth inning with
Hunter Hyden hitting a solo home run to left field, narrowing the gap to 3–1 after six innings. In the seventh inning, Bemidji State continued its comeback.
Jack Feldman was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single by
Beau Thoma. Hyden then grounded out, allowing Feldman to score. The score was 3–2 in favor of the Marauders after seven innings. However, the game concluded with the Marauders securing a 3–2 victory over Bemidji State.
In the second game, Bemidji State took an early lead with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by two home runs, but the Marauders responded with a three-run fourth inning to seize control. Bemidji State added two more runs in the sixth, yet the Marauders secured the win with consistent scoring across multiple innings.
Hunter Hyden scored two runs, collected three hits, and hit a home run in the game.
Matt Filippi also contributed with two runs, two hits, and two RBIs, including a home run.
Nash Rubins added to the offense by recording two hits and stealing a base.
Bemidji State's pitching staff faced a challenging game against the Marauders. Senior pitcher Selway threw for 2 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out one. Sophomore
Connor Donlin pitched 1 1/3 innings, conceding three hits and two earned runs. Junior
Joey Koch contributed 3 1/3 innings, surrendering six hits and two earned runs, while Senior
Cole Smith closed with one scoreless inning, allowing just one hit.
Bemidji State started strong in the first inning with Hyden's single followed by Filippi's two-run homer to right field.
Noah Drusch was hit by a pitch, and Rubins singled, setting the stage for
Cooper Anderson's RBI single. Bemidji State led 3-1 after the first inning.
In the third inning, the Marauders tied the game at 3-3. A double by Griffin and an RBI double by Pegors, along with a throwing error, accounted for the runs.
The Marauders took the lead in the fourth inning. After a single by Ramirez, Griffin's RBI single and Leafgren's RBI double extended their lead to 6-3 by the end of the inning.
Bemidji State narrowed the gap in the sixth inning when Hyden homered to left field, followed by
Steven Koscielniak's RBI double after a fielding error put Filippi on base. This reduced the deficit to 6-5.
The Marauders added an insurance run in the eighth inning with an RBI single by Gaffney, setting the final score at 7-5 in favor of the Marauders.
Bemidji State next closes out the 2026 season on the road by traveling to Concordia University-St. Paul for a three-game series Friday-Saturday.
