SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team split its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader against University of Jamestown after falling 6–5 in the first game and winning 9–7 in the second at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, S.D.
In Game one, Bemidji State rallied with two home runs and scored five runs across the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but could not overcome the Jimmies' early lead. The Jimmies secured their win with a key run in the sixth inning, despite Bemidji State's late efforts.
Beau Thoma recorded two hits, including a home run, and scored twice while driving in one run.
Matt Filippi added to the scoring with a home run, tallying two RBIs and crossing the plate once.
Hunter Hyden posted two hits and collected an RBI while also stealing a base.
Jack Feldman contributed with a hit and two walks, scoring once and swiping a base.
Beau Barry started for Bemidji State, pitching 1 1/3 innings while allowing five earned runs on three hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Andrew Murphy came in relief, delivering a more stable performance with four innings pitched, conceding one earned run on two hits, alongside two walks and two strikeouts.
Cole Smith closed out the game for Bemidji State, pitching 2/3 inning without allowing a run or a walk, surrendering just one hit.
In Game two, Bemidji State jumped to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. The Jimmies attempted a comeback with two home runs in the eighth inning, but Bemidji State secured the victory with a solid bullpen performance, allowing only one run in the final inning.
Beau Thoma contributed significantly with two runs, two hits, three RBIs, and a home run.
Hunter Hyden was effective at the plate, recording three runs and three hits.
Jacob Smith secured a win, pitching five innings while allowing one earned run and striking out five batters.
Castle Huggard closed the game with a save, pitching 1 1/3 innings and collecting three strikeouts.

Castle Huggard closed the game, earning his second save of the season by striking out three over 1 1/3 innings despite allowing one earned run.
Bemidji State started strong against the Jimmies, tallying three runs in the first inning.
Beau Thoma doubled and later scored on
Hunter Hyden's single to right center. Hyden advanced to third on consecutive wild pitches and scored on
Nash Rubins' fielder's choice.
Adrian Falcon singled to drive in
Matt Filippi, who had walked. Bemidji State led 3–1 after the first inning.
In the second inning, Bemidji State extended its lead with a four-run surge.
Hudson Filippi singled, followed by
Jack Feldman's single, setting up Thoma's three-run homer. Hyden added another run, scoring on a passed ball after reaching base on a single. Bemidji State led 7–1 through two innings.
The Jimmies cut into the lead in the third when Mathieu Mori doubled to bring in two runs, trimming the deficit to 7–3.
The game tightened in the fourth as the Jimmies added another run. Ben Swennums doubled and scored on Julian Romer's single, making it 7–4.
Bemidji State added a run in the seventh inning. Hyden singled and scored on Filippi's single, pushing the lead to 8–4.
In the eighth,
Mason Wolf walked and scored on a single by
Noah Drusch, extending Bemidji State's lead to 9–4. The Jimmies responded with solo homers from Jacob Thomas and Melvin Maldo, narrowing the gap to 9–6.
Despite the Jimmies adding one more run in the ninth with a double by Thomas scoring Mori, Bemidji State secured the win with a final score of 9–7.
Looking ahead, Bemidji State will host Minnesota Duluth at 1:30 p.m. CT Wednesday, April 15, at BSU Baseball Field in Bemidji, Minnesota.
