ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team broke a 37-year team record in its final game of the 2026 Saturday afternoon setting a new record for most steals in a season with 85. The Beavers bested the previous team record of 82 set during the 1989 season. However, the Beavers fell to Concordia University-St. Paul, 11-8, in the conclusion of their series and season.
Bemidji State surged ahead with a three-run sixth inning, briefly narrowing the gap, but the Golden Bears responded with a decisive three-run seventh inning to secure the win. Both teams recorded 11 hits, but Bemidji State struggled with control, issuing six walks and allowing three home runs.
Nash Rubins showcased his versatility on the basepaths with two runs, one hit, two RBIs, and three stolen bases including the record breaking steal.
Jack Feldman contributed significantly by scoring two runs and adding one hit and one RBI.
Matt Filippi posted two hits and drove in two runs to bolster the team's offense. Meanwhile,
Jack Barnett pitched four innings, recording six strikeouts despite allowing six runs.
Jack Barnett started on the mound for Bemidji State, pitching four innings while allowing seven hits and six runs, five of which were earned. He struck out six batters and walked two, throwing 79 pitches with 49 strikes.
Beau Barry relieved Barnett and pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and five earned runs, while recording two strikeouts and three walks.
Lucas Ferreira and
Cole Smith combined for 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, with Ferreira allowing no hits and one walk, and Smith facing the minimum in his inning of work.
Bemidji State took an early lead in the first inning when Feldman scored on a single by Filippi. The inning ended with Bemidji State leading 1-0.
In the second inning, Rubins reached third base on a series of errors and scored an unearned run for Bemidji State.
Steven Koscielniak also scored, increasing the lead to 3-0. CSP responded with a solo homer, closing the gap to 3-1.
In the fourth inning, Bemidji State's Rubins scored again on a single by
Carlos Largaespada, bringing the score to 4-3. The Golden Bears evened the game with a run in their half, making it 4-4.
The fifth inning saw Bemidji State retaking the lead with a run scored by
Beau Thoma. However, CSP countered with four runs, taking an 8-5 advantage.
Bemidji State fought back in the sixth inning, scoring three runs.
Cooper Anderson scored on a walk by Filippi, followed by Feldman and
Hunter Hyden also crossing home, leveling the score at 8-8.
CSP pulled ahead in the seventh inning with a homer and a two-run homer, giving them an 11-8 lead.
Bemidji State was unable to score in the final two innings, resulting in an 11-8 defeat to the Golden Bears.
The season finale is the final game for 11 seniors for Bemidji State.
BSU ends the 2026 season with a 9-38 record and went 6-29 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
