Tom Serratore announced Friday afternoon that
Oliver Peer,
Luke Roelofs and
Hudson Thornton have been selected to lead the Beaver Men's Hockey program during the 2026-27. All three will wear the "C".
Peer, Roelofs and Thornton were voted by team returners to become the 65
th, 66
th, and 67
th captains in program history dating back to its first captain Ed Johnson in 1947-48. Peer will serve as the lone senior captain of the group while Roelofs and Thornton will each captain the Beavers as juniors. All three will wear the letter for the first time in their collegiate careers.
Peer, a Burlington, Ontario native, returns for his senior season after a standout first season with the Beavers in 2025-26. In 2025-26 he led the Beavers in points (36) and goals (20) earning All-Central Collegiate Hockey Association First Team honors and was a finalist for the CCHA Forward of the Year. His 20 goals were tied for the fifth most in a season in the program's DI history. Peer finished the season leading the CCHA averaging 0.59 goals per game and third in points per game (1.06). His five game-winning goals tied for the CCHA lead was tied for the eighth most in all of Division I.
Roelofs dawns a letter for the first time in his collegiate career but spent two seasons as a captain for the Bismarck Bobcats during his junior hockey career. The junior defenseman has skated in 52 career games for the green and white and totaled seven points off two goals and five assists while accumulating 18 penalty minutes. Earning an expanded role within the Beavers' defensive group, Roelefs appeared in 34 of the team's 36 games in 2025-26 and achieved a career-high six points (2-4—6). He earned CCHA Scholar-Athlete and All-Academic Team honors last season and is an AHCA All-American Scholar.
Thornton returns for his junior season of collegiate hockey after making an immediate impact on the program in his first year as a sophomore. Thornton was one of seven Beavers to skate in all 36 games last season and one of three defensemen. He led all BSU defenders with 18 points tallying two goals and 16 assists and tied for 10
th across defensemen in the CCHA. He tied for the team lead with 13 power-play points (1-12—13) and second with 45 blocks defensively. On November 3, he earned his first CCHA Defenseman of the Week honor after helping the Beavers capture four-of-six points at Bowling Green State University.
The group prepares to lead the 2026-27 Beavers aiming to improve on a 13-19-4 record last season and sixth-place finish in the CCHA. Bemidji State's 2026-27 conference schedule was released on May 12 and the Beavers begin the fresh conference slate Oct. 30-31 at home against Ferris State University.
