BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University Athletics officially begins renovations to the playing surface at Chet Anderson Stadium on Wednesday, marking a significant investment in the future of Beaver Athletics and the game-day experience for student-athletes and fans.
Construction on the new synthetic turf field from Shaw Sports Turf is set to begin July 1 in partnership with Mammoth Construction and is scheduled for completion around mid July, ensuring Chet Anderson Stadium is ready for the start of the 2026 Beaver and Bemidji High School Soccer and Football seasons. The field, which is a National Football League-approved system, is one of the first of its kind in NCAA Division II across all sports.
The project is made possible through the generous support of First National Bank of Bemidji, Federated Insurance and an anonymous donor, whose contributions helped bring the vision for a new playing surface to life.
"BSU Athletics is incredibly grateful to the philanthropic donors to this project who have not only trusted us with the vision, but enabled us to provide safe, state-of-the art turf for BSU football and soccer, as well as our high school events, and community-use opportunities," said Bemidji State Director of Athletics,
Britt Lauritsen. "We are also thankful for the work and dedication of the Bemidji State Alumni & Foundation team, especially
Adrian Dunn, who have led this project and brought it to fruition. We sought to illustrate to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, NCAA Division II and beyond that Bemidji State Athletics represents the North in everything we do, right down to the design elements of the turf."
The new field will feature a design unique to Bemidji State, embracing the university's North Woods identity. The end zones will showcase a backdrop of pine trees behind a white "Bemidji State" wordmark, creating a distinctive look that reflects the natural beauty and spirit of northern Minnesota. An all-white Beaver logo at midfield will provide a clean, bold centerpiece for the field.
In addition to the updated visual identity, the new synthetic turf surface will provide a durable, high-quality playing field for student-athletes while enhancing the overall experience and lending a hand to recruitment efforts.
The renovation is part of Bemidji State's continued commitment to investing in championship-level facilities that support the success of its student-athletes and strengthen the game-day atmosphere at Chet Anderson Stadium.
Additional updates on the project, including construction progress and philanthropic efforts associated, will be shared throughout the summer on the Beaver Athletics website and social media channels.
