BISMARCK, N.D. — The Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team surrendered two goals during the second half and fell 2-0 to University of Mary in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday afternoon at MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck, N.D.
 
The loss snapped the Beavers' five-match unbeaten streak and moved Bemidji State to 4-2-3 overall and 3-1-2 in NSIC play. UMary improved to 5-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in conference action.
 
The teams played through a scoreless opening half, with the Marauders holding a 4-3 advantage in shots. Madisen Fritel generated the Beavers' first shot on goal in the 15th minute before Molly Burkstrand put another attempt on frame in the 22nd. Rozlyn Buettner stopped Dina Polanco's shot in the closing minutes to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
 
Sydney Sutherland produced the first scoring opportunity of the second half for Bemidji State, but her shot in the 54th minute was saved by Kadyn Dilger.
 
The Marauders broke the scoreless tie at 61:31 when Polanco scored her eighth goal of the season. The unassisted goal gave UMary a 1-0 advantage and ultimately stood as the game-winner.
 
UMary doubled its lead in the 79th minute following a corner kick. Chloe Brand set up Bella Kozlowski, who converted at 78:34 for her first goal of the season.
 
The Beavers generated one final opportunity when Brenna Nichols put a shot on goal in the 89th minute, but Dilger made the save to preserve the shutout. Dilger stopped all four Bemidji State shots on goal.
 
UMary finished with a 9-5 advantage in total shots and placed four attempts on goal. Four of the Beavers' five shots were on target, with Fritel, Burkstrand, Sutherland and Nichols each recording one shot on goal. UMary also held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Buettner finished with two saves over 90 minutes but falls to 1-2-1 on the season.
 
The Beavers return home Friday, Oct. 2, to host Minnesota State University, Mankato at Chet Anderson Stadium. The NSIC match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
