BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University softball
team went 1-2 in the first day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference Crossover Tournament today at the BSU Field.
Senior pitcher Katie Hurst led the Beavers
to a win in their first game of the day as she struck eight
Wayne State batters out on her way to a 6-3 victory.
BSU took the lead in the bottom of the second when
Betsy Hegland led the inning off with a base hit to left
field. She was knocked in when Jamie Fisher singled to left,
giving BSU a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers added four more in the fourth
when Jess Radermacher singled down the left field line and
was advanced to second when Fisher reached on an error by
the Wayne State third baseman. Megan Woslager collected an
RBI when she singled. Shawne Koch collected two RBIs with
a bases-clearing shot to left center. Jamie Fisher scored
Koch
when she reached
on error to bring BSU's lead to 5-0.
The BSU lead was stretched to six runs in
the fifth. Megan Bray began the inning with a double into
deep right-center field. After the WSC pitcher quickly sat
Leah Bowen and Hegland down, Radermacher doubled to the right-center
fence to score Bray.
In the top of the sixth, Wayne State manufactured
three runs with solid fundamental softball to cut the Beaver
lead to three, but BSU would stop the rally and take the
win 6-3.

were limited to just two hits by the Winona State University
pitcher. In 7.0 innings of work, Wisniewski collected six
strike outs, while shutting BSU out.
BSU had its best chance in the second when
Fisher reached when she singled up the middle and was advanced
to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jenna Grins. but that
was as far as any BSu base-runner would get, as Wisniewski
buckled down and took the complete-game 3-0 win.
Hust was again on the mound for the Beavers,
logging 7.0 innings, striking out four and allowing three
runs.
In its final game of the day, Bemidji State
was defeated by Southwest State University, 4-2.
The game was tied 0-0 until the top of the
third when Southwest State scored two runs on three hits.
The Beavers would come back in the bottom of the inning
to tie the game led by Bray and Radermacher.
Bray began the
inning with a double to the left-center gap. She was advanced
to third when Bowen dropped a sacrifice bunt on the first
base line. Radermacher followed with a base hit to left-center
that scored Bray. Radermacher would advance to second on
a Woslager single and score on an error by the Mustang
second baseman.
Southwest State would reclaim the lead
in the sixth inning when they strung three singles together
and would add another run in the seventh when they capitalized
on a walk and a BSU error. The Mustangs would sit BSU down
in order in the bottom of the seventh to close out the win.
Bowen was on the mound for BSU, allowing
three runs, two earned, and nine hits in 7.0 innings
of work.
