COLUMBUS, Ohio - Behind three third period goals and a four-point effort from Jana Harrigan, Ohio State (7-5-1, 6-5-0 WCHA) recorded a 4-1 victory over the Bemidji State women’s hockey team (2-11-0, 1-10-0 WCHA) Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink. The Beavers were held scoreless on the power-play for the first time in six games.

Ohio State scored the lone goal of the first two periods at the 11:49 mark of the opening stanza when Meaghan Mulvaney tallied her third marker of the season.

In a period that saw four goals, BSU knotted the game at 1-1 at 3:23 of the third frame, as freshman Tara Hiscock (Bemidji, Minn.) lit the lamp for the third time in her rookie campaign, which moved her into first on the team in rookie scoring (3-2=5). Senior Jenny Schnickel (Coon Rapids, Minn.) earned her second assist in three games on the goal, while sophomore Kelly Hart (Ajax, Ontario) tabbed her team-leading sixth assist and 10th point of the season.

Despite outshooting the Buckeyes 17-8 in the third period, the Beaver relinquished three goals in an 11 minute span, which sealed their fate. OSU received a goal from Mallory Peckels at 5:08, Jana Harrigan at 7:57 and Jeni Creary at the 16:04 mark to put any BSU comeback attempts to rest with a convincing 4-1 series-opening win.

For the second consecutive contest, the Beavers outshot their opponent, as the Green and White fired 26 shots to OSU’s 21.

OSU converted one-of-two power-play chances, while BSU was shut out on five opportunities.

Junior goaltender Jill Luebke (Neenah, Wis.) secured 17 saves and her season record fell to 1-7-0. Erika Vanderveer improved to 5-1-1 after stopping 25 Bemidji State shots.

The two teams will take a one-day break before resuming play Sunday at 12:05 p.m. Eastern Standard Time at the OSU Ice Rink.

Notes: Sophomore Nikki Eckebrecht’s four-game scoring streak and Carly Napier’s three-game multi-point scoring streak were snapped... BSU’s one goal performance was its lowest scoring output since Oct. 30 when the Beavers fell 2-1 to Minnesota Duluth... Bemidji State is winless its last six appearances at the OSU Ice Rink...
