ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Upper Iowa University's Katie Rodenwald was 9-of-11
from beyond the three-point arc collecting 19 of her game-high
28 points in the final 20 minutes to spark a Peacock run to
overcome a 10-point halftime deficit and defeat the Bemidji
State University women's basketball team 70-57 in the final
game of the 2005 Radisson/St. Paul Classic Saturday at the
Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn.

Bemidji State put together a solid first
                    half.
After netting a 3-0 lead in the opening minutes,
the Beavers allowed the Peacocks to bounced back and score
six unanswered points to take a three-point lead just five
                    minutes into the game.
The teams traded baskets and the lead during
the next 2:30, but when UIU's Ashley Martin hit a three with
12:21 remaining in the half, it kick-started a 13-point Upper
Iowa run that put BSU in a 12-point hole (22-10).
But the Peacocks would get just three points
for the remainder of the half as BSU ripped off a 25-3 run
in the final 8:48, scoring the last 13 points of the stanza
to take a 10-point advantage (35-25) into the locker rooms
                    at halftime.
BSU out shot the Peacocks 50 (13-26) to 36 percent (9-25)
in the first half and held a 19-12 edge on the glass.
The see-saw battle continued in the second half as UIU came
out of the break to rattle off 10 straight points to knot
the game (35-35) with over 17 minutes to play.
The teams would again trade baskets and the lead during the
next few possessions, but when Rachel Mitchell hit a three
with 14:46 to play, it gave the Peacocks a three-point lead
(43-40)--a lead they would never relinquish. Within four minutes
UIU held an eight point advantage and despite Bemidji State
cutting the lead to four points (50-46) at the mid point of
the second half, the Peacocks continued to press BSU with
clutch long-rang shooting, gaining their largest lead of the
night (70-57) on a pair of free-throws with 33 seconds remaining.

                  Karlee Simonson (Rockford, Minn.) scored
a season-best 12 points, hauled in nine rebounds and dished
out four assists to lead BSU in all three categories. Maggie
Gernbacher (Bloomington, Minn.) added 11 points hitting
a pair of three-pointers in the loss.
In addition to Rodenwald, Martin and Amanda Faas also posted
double-digit point totals collecting 12 and 10 points respectively.
Martin also pulled down 10 boards for the game's only double-double.
The Peacocks used a 52-percent (13-25) performance in the
second half to out shoot BSU from the floor in the game. The
team torched the nets from three-point land hitting 14-of-28
on the night including a 9-of-13 stretch in the final 20 minutes.
The loss drops BSU to 0-3 on the season while
the Peacock improve to 1-2 overall. The Beavers continue tournament
play as they travel to Kearney, Neb. to compete in the Nebraska-Kearney
                    Tournament Nov. 25-26. The team is slated for a 5 p.m. tip-off
versus the host University of Nebraska-Kearney on Friday and
will battle Fort Hayes State University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
