BEMIDJI, Minn. - An offensive explosion by Wisconsin (23-7-1, 17-7-1 WCHA) in the second period, put the game well out of reach for the Bemidji State (8-21-2, 4-20-1 WCHA) and cemented the Badgers 7-0 win Friday afternoon.

As the Beaver offense couldn’t find the net, Wisconsin’s charge was clicking on all cylinders from the opening faceoff. Just 20 seconds into the first period the Badgers had already found the net courtesy of Lindsay Macy, who would also add an assist to her day. Another first period goal, this time by Badger Sara Bauer at the 14:00 mark. Down 2-0, the Beaver defense tightened up for the rest of the first period.

Wisconsin’s offense found its legs in period two as they tallied five more goals. Two goals, one short-handed and one power-play, were scored by sophomore wing Meaghan Mikkelson second stanza.

Freshman Jinelle Zaugg added a goal, along with teammates Grace Hutchins and Sharon Cole also getting on the board to end the second period with the score 7-0.

The Bemidji State defense in the third period improved and the offense gave itself some good chances but were unable to find the back of the net. The Beavers limited Wisconsin to just eight shots on goal in period three, which is the least in any period of the three head-to-head matchups this season.
Wisconsin goalie Meghan Horras played well in net for the Badgers stopping all 12 shots she faced and gaining the shutout to run her win total to 16-5-1 on the season.

Bemidji State goalie Emily Brookshaw (Fr.; Webster, Wis.) started out the game in net and picked up the loss stopping 11 of 15 shots. Her record dropped to 5-10-1 on the season. Jill Luebke (Jr.; Neenah, Wis.) relieved Brookshaw in net just four minutes into the second period and stopped 16 of the 19 shots she faced.

The Beavers return to action Saturday afternoon to complete the two-game set against Wisconsin at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse. The puck will drop at 2:05 p.m.
