BEMIDJI, Minn. - With the score knotted at 1-1, and time running out, the University of North Dakota's Cara Wooster slipped the puck past Bemidji State's goaltender Emily Brookshaw (Fr.; Webster, Wis.) to give the Fighting Sioux a 2-1 win in dramatic fashion.
The win separates UND and BSU from the bottom of the WCHA standings as the Fighting Sioux move up to seventh place just in time for the WCHA Tournament, March 3-6.
It took BSU just 60 seconds to light its half of the scoreboard. Kate Robinson (So.; Shanty Bay, Ont.) fed Jessica Pullar (Fr.; Elk River, Minn.) a perfect pass from behind the goal, and Pullar one-timed her fourth goal of the season, giving the Beavers a 1-0 edge.
At the 11:04 mark of the second period, the Fighting Sioux battled back to knot the score, 1-1. With help from Melissa Dianoski and Cami Wooster, Cara Wooster scored her 14th tally of the season. She would be the hero scoring her second goal of the afternoon as time ran out in the third period.
In the net for BSU, Brookshaw turned away 31 shots in the loss allowing two goals. Her UND counterpart, Amber Hasbargen collected 26 saves in the win.
The loss drops Bemidji State to 9-23-2 on the season and 5-22-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. The North Dakota Fighting Sioux improved their season record to 9-22-3, 6-21-1 in WCHA play. Bemidji State will be in action March 3-6, as it travels to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete in the 2005 WCHA Tournament slated for Ridder Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
