Emily Brookshaw
(Webster, Wisc.) notched a career-high 47 saves against the University
of Minnesota Duluth, but the No. 5-ranked Bulldogs were able to come
away with a 4-0 victory Saturday at the Duluth Entertainment and
Convention Center.
Brookshaw’s previous
high was 45 saves, which she had equaled twice in her career. She also
had a career-high in shots faced with 51. Her previous high was 50
shots faced in a 2005 matchup against the Bulldogs.
Karine
Demeule scored the first goal 17 minutes into the first period, and she
was assisted by Jaime Rasmussen and Laura Fridfinnso. Fridfinnso scored
a power-play goal 3:50 into the second period and was assisted by
Rasmussen. Saara Tuominem notched a goal less than five minutes later,
with Iya Gavrilova and Heidi Pelttari credited with the helpers.
Demeule scored the final goal in the third period, and was against
assited by Fridfinnso and Jocelyn Larocqu.
Erin Cody (Fr., Roseville, Minn.) led the way for Bemidji State with three shots attempted. Four other Beavers attempted two shots.
BSU went 0-4 on the power play and the Bulldogs were 1-5.
Minnesota
Duluth (3-0-0, 3-0-0 WCHA) outshot the Beavers (0-2-1, 0-2-1 WCHA) in
every period, and attempted 51 total shots to BSU’s 17. Brookshaw
saved 47 of the shots, and Kim Martin saved all 17 shots for the
Bulldogs. She has yet to allow a goal all season.
The Bulldogs improved their win streak over Bemidji State to 24 games, which dates back to a 3-3 tie Feb. 3, 2002.
Bemidji State will conclude its two-game series with UMD Sunday starting at 3:07 p.m.
