DULUTH, Minn. - A day removed from setting a single-game career high in saves,
Emily Brookshaw
(Webster, Wisc.) nearly shut out the No. 5-ranked University of
Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Sunday afternoon at the Duluth Entertainment
and Convention Center.
Brookshaw sent back 34
of 35 Minnesota Duluth shots after saving 47 on Saturday, but she
allowed one in the second period to Karine Demeule that proved to be
the game-winning goal in the 1-0 contest. Iya Gavrilova and Sarah
Murray were credited with assists on the goal that was scored 6:48 into
the second.
Bemidji State held the Bulldogs to
just 35 shots after allowing 51 in the first game of the series. The
Beavers attempted 16 shots Sunday against the Bulldogs. The Beavers
went 0-6 on the power play and UMD was 0-4.
Johanna
Ellison played in net for the Bulldogs and had 16 saves for her first
win of the season, as she was playing in place of usual starter Kim
Martin.
Erin Cody (Roseville, Minn.) and Brooke Collins (Pilot Mound, Manitoba) led BSU with four shots, and six other Beavers attempted at least one.
Minnesota
Duluth (4-0-0, 4-0-0 WCHA) has yet to allow a goal all season, and the
Beavers (0-3-1, 0-3-1 WCHA) held the Bulldogs to their lowest scoring
output of the season.
The Bulldogs now own a 25-game win streak over Bemidji State, which dates back to a 3-3 tie Feb. 3, 2002.
Bemidji
State will return to action Oct. 19-20 with a weekend series against
the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D. Game times are set
for 7:07 p.m. and 4:07 p.m. respectively.
