GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Bemidji State women’s
hockey team took 31 shots against the University of North Dakota but
failed to get any past the UND goaltender, falling to the Fighting
Sioux 3-0 Saturday evening at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
The Beavers had their highest shot output of the season with 31, and they also held North Dakota to only 22 shots.
BSU
cut down on penalties, only being whistled for two. UND had three
penalties, and both teams were unable to convert on their respective
power play opportunities.
The Beavers gave
up a goal 1:46 into the game to Melissa Jaques who was assisted by
Ashley Lynch. Ashley Paulson scored another at the 15:55 mark of the
opening period, and she was assisted by Randi Motsko and Kelsey
Fletcher. Alex Williams notched a goal 12:58 into the second to make
the score 3-0, and she was helped out by Andrea Cook.
Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wisc.) played the first two periods in net, saving 10 shots while giving up three goals. Jennifer Bauer (St. Catharines, Ontario) saw her first collegiate action, playing the third period. She stopped all nine shots faced.
Brittany Kirkham was credited with the win after saving all 31 BSU shots in 60 minutes of action.
Erin Cody (Roseville, Minn.) led BSU in shots with four, and three other Beavers had three.
North Dakota earned a series sweep over the Beavers for the first time since February 2004.
Next
up for the Beavers is a trip to Columbus, Ohio, when they face Ohio
State University Nov. 2-3 at 7:07 p.m. for both contests.
