BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State men’s
hockey team had five goals from five different players in
Tuesday’s 5-1 exhibition victory over the Manitoba Bisons at John
S. Glas Fieldhouse.
Ian Lowe
(Fr., Bradwardine, Manitoba) got things started for the Beavers,
notching a goal 7:28 into the first period off a pass behind the goalie
from Emil Billberg (Fr., Stockholm, Sweden). Ryan Cramer (Fr., International Falls, Minn.) scored the eventual game-winner at the 13:33 mark of the opening period, with assists from Brandon Marino (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) and Matt Francis (Jr., Surrey, B.C.).
Matt Read (Fr., Ilderton, Ontario) got one more goal before the first intermission, scoring with 11 seconds remaining off an assist by Riley Weselowski
(Sr., Pilot Mound, Manitoba). Weselowski passed it to Read behind the
BSU net, and Read took the puck coast-to-coast, weaving in and out of
Manitoba defenders before eventually finding the net on the top right
corner.
Bemidji State outshot UM 17-3 in the first frame, and 37-20 for the entire game.
Blaine Jarvis (Sr., Gladstone, Manitoba) scored the fourth goal of the game with 3:36 remaining in the second period. Joey Moggach (So., Brandon, Manitoba) provided the assist on Jarvis’ goal.
Billberg topped things off for the Beavers with a power-play goal with 2:21 remaining in the same frame off assists by Lowe and Cody Bostock (Jr., Salmon Arm, B.C.).
Bemidji State was 1-for-6 on the power play and the Bisons went 0-for-5.
Calin
Wild got Manitoba on the board 5:11 into the final period, making sure
his team would not be shut out. Mike Hellyer and Nolan Waker assisted
on the goal.
Matt Dalton
(Fr., Clinton, Ontario) was in net for the Beavers, playing all but 18
seconds and coming up with 19 saves. Justin Harris began the game in
net for the Bisons, taking the loss after allowing the first three
goals and saving 19 shots. Steve Christie replaced Harris halfway
through the second period, and he allowed two more goals and saved 13
shots.
Bemidji State is now 7-5-1 in
exhibition games since 1999-2000, and is now 3-2-1 in exhibition games
against Manitoba. The Beavers improved their all-time record against UM
to 21-15-3 and are now 16-10-3 at home against the Bisons.
