No. 2-ranked Wisconsin defeats Bemidji State 7-0

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State women’s hockey team played a hard game, but fell 7-0 Friday night against the No. 2-ranked University of Wisconsin Badgers at John Glas Fieldhouse.

Erin Cody (Fr., Roseville, Minn.) led the charge for BSU, attempting four shots on goal in the contest. Tara Hiscock (Sr., Turtle River, Minn.) was the other Beaver who attempted more than one shot, as she had two.

Wisconsin got on the board early and never looked back, scoring three goals in the first 3:39.

Jinelle Zaugg, Alycia Matthews and Hilary Knight scored the three goals, and Knight, Meghan Duggan, Erika Lawler, Jasmine Giles and Emily Morris all picked up assists.

Zaugg scored the fourth goal of the opening period, and the third-consecutive power-play goal for UW, 10:56 into the first, and BSU stifled the Wisconsin scoring attack for the rest of the opening frame.

The Badgers began the game 3-for-3 on the power play, but Bemidji State cranked up the penalty kill for the rest of the game, holding UW to 0-for-4 the rest of the way on the man advantage.

Lawler and Kelly Nash scored second-period goals, and Duggan scored the final goal early in the third period for Wisconsin. Morris, Emily Kranz, Kayla Hagen and Rachel Bible each picked up assists on the goals.

Emily Brookshaw (Sr., Webster, Wisc.) was in net for BSU, and she took the loss after saving 37 shots and allowing seven goals. Jessie Vetter was credited with the win after saving all 13 shots faced.

Bemidji State wraps up the series with the Badgers Saturday at 2:07 p.m. at the Glas.

NOTES: BSU was outshot 44-13 in the contest, and attempted only one opening-period shots...Bemidji State was in the penalty box seven different times, while Wisconsin was in the box only three times...Hiscock and Lisa Kissick (Jr., Carman, Manitoba) were the two Beavers who won the majority of their faceoffs..Hiscock was 16-and-13 and Kissick went 3-and-2...Wendy Bergh (Jr., Hallock, Minn.) saw her first action of the season Friday.
