Collins' career game helps BSU tie Niagara

NIAGARA, N.Y. - Brooke Collins (Jr., Pilot Mound, Manitoba) scored two third-period goals to give the Bemidji State women’s hockey team a 2-2 tie Friday night against Niagara University in the Beavers’ first-ever trip to Niagara, N.Y.

Ashley Riggs came into the game with nine goals this season, tied for fourth in the country. She got the Purple Eagles started early with a 5-on-3 power-play goal 10:09 into the first period. Shannon Moulson (7 this season) and Marie Henriksen (4) assisted on the goal.

The two teams played to a stalemate for the remainder of the first, and the entire second period. Then just 33 seconds into the third period, Collins scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Frances McPhail (4) and Mary McKinnon (3) assisted on Price’s goal, and Jessica Pullar (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) and Monica Rawlings (Jr., Maplewood, Minn.) helped out on Collins’ goal.

The two teams played the rest of the third and a five-minute overtime period, but nothing was settled as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wisc.) notched a game-high 38 saves in 65 minutes in net for Bemidji State. Nikki Rudy played all but six seconds in net for Niagara, and she had 20 saves.

Rawlings added her second helper of the season, and the fourth of her career, while Pullar had her first assist and the 13th of her career.
